11.23

臨安府靈隱正童圓明禪師。僧問如何是道。師曰。夜行莫踏白。曰如何是道中人。師曰。黃張三黑李四。

Chan Master Zhengtong Yuanming of Lingyin in Lin'an Prefecture. A monk asked, "What is the Way?" The Master said, "Walking at night, do not tread on white." [The monk] asked, "Who is the person in the Way?" The Master said, "Yellow Zhang the Third, Black Li the Fourth."
