11.38

杭州承天守明禪師上堂曰。劍輪飛處好定綱宗。石火電光眼中著屑。所以曹溪拈拂已涉痕瑕。雪嶺輥毬急須著眼。若是行脚上士本分禪流。縱教喝散白雲衝開碧落。如斯受用又屬建化門中。若也正令提綱。任是三頭六臂底出來。也須倒退三千里。參。

Chan Master Shouming of Chengtian in Hangzhou ascended the hall and said, "Where the sword wheel flies, it is best to establish the lineage tenets; spark of flint and flash of lightning are specks of dust in the eye. Therefore, Caoxi's taking up the whisk has already incurred a blemish; Xuefeng's rolling the ball urgently requires looking with care. If you are an eminent practitioner on pilgrimage, a genuine Chan follower, even if you shout away the white clouds and charge open the azure sky, such application still belongs to the gate of establishing and transforming. If the primary directive were to be upheld, even if someone with three heads and six arms came forth, he too would have to retreat three thousand miles. Participate!"
