13.19

信州龜峯瑞相子瓊禪師。僧問。如何是博山境。師曰。㵎流淥水路出松門。僧云。如何是境中人。師曰。身著紅綃衣肚中黑如漆。僧云。向上宗乘事若何。師曰。剎竿頭指天。又問。青春已過夏景暄繁。時節因緣請師為說。師曰。臘月二十五未是拜年時。僧云學人未曉乞師再指。師曰。石人身上不生毛。

Chan Master Guifeng Ruixiang Ziqiong of Xinzhou. A monk asked, 'What is the realm of Boshan?' The master said, 'Streams flow with clear water; the path emerges from the pine gate.' The monk said, 'What is the person in the realm?' The master said, 'Body dressed in red gossamer, inside his belly it is as black as lacquer.' The monk said, 'How is the matter of the superior lineage vehicle?' The master said, 'The tip of the monastery flagpole points to heaven.' He also asked, 'Youth has already passed, and the summer scene is bright and dense. I request the master to speak about the seasonal nidāna.' The master said, 'The twenty-fifth day of the twelfth month is not yet the time for New Year greetings.' The monk said, 'This student does not yet understand; I beg the master to point it out again.' The master said, 'No hair grows on the body of a stone man.'
