Chan Master Huaixiu of Dawei in Tanzhou was a son of the Ying family from Xinzhou. A monk asked, "In former days Guishan had a water buffalo; since being let go, its traces have ceased. Today we are fortunate to meet you ascending the seat; we wonder where people today should seek it?" The Master said, "Do not violate other people's sprouts and grain." The monk said, "If so, then its horns are already distinct." The Master said, "In vain you grant an iron whip to the mountain lad."
