17.25

西京熊耳慈禪師上堂。般若無知應緣而照。山僧今日撒屎撒尿。這邊放那邊屙。東西山嶺笑呵呵。幸然一片清涼地。剛被熊峯染污他。染污他莫啾唧。泥牛木馬盡呵叱。過犯彌天且莫論。再得清明又何日。還會麻。來年更有新條在。惱亂春風卒未休。

Chan Master Ci of Xiong'er in the Western Capital ascended the hall and said, 'Prajñā has no knowing, yet illuminates in response to conditions. Today this mountain monk scatters feces and urinates: releasing over here, defecating over there; the eastern and western mountain ridges roar with laughter. Fortunately a patch of cool, pure ground, yet it has just been defiled by Xiong Peak. Defiling it—make no fretful complaints! Mud oxen and wooden horses all scold and shout. Let alone offenses filling heaven, when will clarity and brightness be attained again? Do you understand? "Next year there will be new branches again, / Troubling the spring wind, never ceasing."'
