衢州光孝普印慈覺禪師。泉州許氏子。室中問僧。父母未生已前在甚麼處行履。僧擬對。即打出。或曰。達磨在爾脚下。僧擬看。亦打出。或曰。道道。僧擬開口。復打出。

Chan Master Puyin Cijue of Guangxiao in Quzhou was a son of the Xu family of Quanzhou. In his room he asked a monk, "Where were you walking before your parents were born?" When the monk was about to reply, he struck him out at once. Or he would say, "Bodhidharma is under your feet!" When the monk was about to look down, he also struck him out. Or he would say, "Speak, speak!" When the monk was about to open his mouth, he again struck him out.
