Chan Master Weishang of Guangfu Cloister in Lin'an Prefecture initially visited Jueyin and asked, "What was the intention of Nanquan cutting the cat?" Yin said, "You must be Nanquan before you can do it." Yin questioned him with the previous words, and the master could not answer. Arriving at the monks' hall, he suddenly experienced great awakening and said, "The ancients said: 'From this day forward I no longer doubt the tongues of the venerable old teachers of the world.' Truly it is so!" He composed a verse and presented it to Yin: 'It must be Nanquan's primary mechanism; / Unwittingly, unawares, struck abruptly on the head. / Face to face, if one lacks blue-and-white eyes, / One is still like an otter guarding an empty pool.' Before he finished citing it, Yin raised his fist and said, "Right at such a time, how is it?" The master overturned the meditation couch. Yin then shouted. The master said, "Drawing the bow after the thief has passed!" When he went out to dwell at Guangfu, in the room he asked a monk, "Holding it up, how do you comprehend it?" He also said, "Tell me, what is it that requires someone to hold it up?"
