Prime Minister and Upāsaka Fu Bi, courtesy name Yanguo. After being spurred on by Lord Qingxian, he applied himself to this Way day and night without rest. Hearing that Chan Master Yong presided over the Dharma assembly at Touzi and was paramount in the Huai River region, he went to resolve his doubts. It happened that Yong ascended the seat for the assembly. Seeing him look around like an elephant king turning back, the prime minister had a slight realization. Thereupon, observing the etiquette of a disciple, he hastened to the abbot's room and instructed the attendant to request admission. Yong, seeing him, immediately said, "The prime minister has already entered; Fu Bi is still outside." Hearing this, the prime minister broke into a sweat all over his back and had a great awakening. Soon after, he sent a verse to Yuanzhao Ben, saying: / 'Upon one meeting with Master Yong, awakening entered deep; / Through these conditions, I obtained the old master's mind. / Do not speak idly of the southeast's distant rivers and hills; / My eyes face the numinous light and the wondrous sound.' / Later, he memorialized the throne to grant Yong a master's title. When Yong ascended the hall to give thanks, he said, "That was an error of the moment; I also acted on the mistake to make the best of it." The prime minister composed a verse in praise, saying: / 'Ten thousand trees and a thousand flowers wish to flourish; / The reclining dragon has not yet emerged from the dark ocean. / Rosy clouds and splendid mists present auspicious omens; / As before, the southern mountain is entirely blue.'
