越州寶嚴叔芝禪師。僧問。如何是佛。師曰。土身木骨。曰意旨如何。師曰。五彩金裝。曰恁麼則頂禮去也。師曰。天台楖栗。

Chan Master Shuzhi of Baoyan in Yuezhou. A monk asked, "What is the Buddha?" The Master said, "Clay body and wooden bones." The monk said, "What is the meaning?" The Master said, "Adorned in five-colored gold." The monk said, "In that case, I make obeisance and depart." The Master said, "A Tiantai staff of zhili wood."
