襄州谷隱契崇禪師。僧問。如何是祖師西來意。師曰。番人皮裘胡人著。曰學人不會此理如何。師曰。聾人側耳瘂人歌。
Chan Master Qichong of Guyin in Xiangzhou. A monk asked: 'What is the meaning of the Patriarch's coming from the West?' The Master said: 'A barbarian's fur robe worn by a Hu foreigner.' The monk said: 'I do not understand this principle; how is it?' The Master said: 'A deaf person cocks an ear; a mute person sings.'
