南康軍兜率志恩禪師上堂。落落魄魄居村居郭。莽莽鹵鹵何今何古。不重己靈休話佛祖。拂定釋迦鼻孔。揭却觀音耳朵。任他雪嶺輥毬。休管禾山打鼓。若是本色衲僧。終不守株待兔。參。

Chan Master Zhi'en of Doushuai in Nankang Military Prefecture ascended the hall: 'Down and out, living in the village, living in the outer town; reckless and coarse, what is present, what is ancient? Not honoring one’s own spirit, stop talking of buddhas and patriarchs! Strike Śākyamuni’s nostrils; tear off Avalokiteśvara's ears! Let the snowy ridge roll the ball; never mind Mount He beating the drum. If you are an authentic patch-robed monk, you will never wait by the stump for a hare. Attend!'
