Chan Master Wujie Jingtam of Yuwang in Qingyuan Prefecture was a native of Jiahe. In his later years he returned to Fahui in Qiantang. One day he ascended the hall: 'Originally, deep in the mountains, I lay amidst white clouds; / By chance I came here to lodge my idle body. / Do not come asking me about Chan and the Dao— / I am a man who eats rice and voids excrement.' In the summer of the bingyin year of Shaoxing, he took leave of court dignitaries and returned to transfer the affairs of the monastery. The fourfold assembly crowded around watching him. After waving his fan for a long time, he wrote a verse: 'This fellow has never had a seam or gap; / For fifty-six years he has been a master of talk. / Dying today to see King Yama, / The forest of swords and mountain of knives strike dread into one.' He then drew a circle, said, 'Ha! Let the various quarters bore turtles and strike tiles as they will,' gathered his feet, and was transformed. After cremation, relics fell like sleet. His disciples took his bones back to Mount Ayuwang and erected a stupa.
