信州靈鷲山寶積宗映禪師。開堂日廼橫按拄杖曰。大眾到這裏。無親無疎自然不孤。無內無外縱橫自在。自在不孤清淨毘盧。釋迦舉令彌勒分疎。觀根逗教更相回互。看取寶積拄杖子。黑漆光生兩頭相副。阿呵呵。是何言歟。良久曰。世事但將公道斷。人心難與月輪齊。卓一下下座。

Chan Master Baoji Zongying of Mount Lingjiu in Xinzhou. On the day he opened the hall, holding his staff crosswise, he said: "Great assembly, arriving here: with neither close nor distant, naturally one is not alone; with neither inside nor outside, vertical and horizontal are at ease. Being at ease and not alone is pure Vairocana. Śākyamuni exercises authority, Maitreya provides the explanation. Observing capacity and matching instruction, they mutually interpenetrate. Look at Baoji's staff: glossy black sheen glowing, both ends matching each other. Ah, haha! What words are these?" After a long pause, he said: "Worldly affairs are settled only by public justice; the human heart can hardly match the fullness of the moon." Striking once, he stepped down from the seat.
