廬山慧日文雅禪師受請日。僧問。向上宗乘乞師不吝。師曰。拄杖正開封。曰小出大遇也。師曰。放過即不可便打。

Chan Master Wenya of Huiri on Mount Lu, on the day he accepted the invitation [to abbotship], was asked by a monk: "I beg the master not to begrudge the higher ancestral vehicle." The master said: "The staff is just now opening the seal." The monk said: "A small output meets a great encounter." The master said: "It cannot be let pass," and struck him.
