22.9

吉州青原惟信禪師上堂。老僧三十年前未參禪時。見山是山見水是水。及至後來親見知識有箇入處。見山不是山。見水不是水。而今得箇休歇處。依然見山秖是山。見水秖是水。大眾這三般見解是同是別。有人緇素得出。許汝親見老僧。

Chan Master Weixin of Qingyuan in Jizhou ascended the hall: 'Thirty years ago, before this old monk practiced Chan, I saw mountains as mountains and saw waters as waters. Later, when I personally saw a kalyāṇamitra and had an entry, I saw mountains were not mountains, and saw waters were not waters. Now that I have attained a resting place, as before I see mountains are just mountains, and see waters are just waters. Assembly, are these three views the same or different? If anyone can distinguish black from white, I grant that you have personally seen this old monk.'
