Chan Master Yetang Puchong of Yuwang in Qingyuan Prefecture was a native of that prefecture. Addressing the assembly, he cited: "Upādhyāya Baling said: 'It is not the wind that moves; it is not the banner that moves. It is neither wind nor banner—where else will you set it down? If anyone vents anger on behalf of the Patriarch, let him come out and meet Baling!' Upādhyāya Xuedou said: 'Wind moves, banner moves; since it is wind and banner, where else will you set it down? If anyone vents anger on behalf of Baling, let him come out and meet Xuedou!'" The Master said: / "Neither wind nor banner, there is nowhere to set it down; / Being banner and being wind, there is no place to set it down. / The swift falcons soaring in the far sky all lose their tracks; / The golden-haired lion crouching on the ground also loses his composure. / Ha, ha, ha! Awakened or not awakened? / It makes one think again of Xie Sanlang, / A single line fishing alone in the cold river rain."
