Chan Master Dayuan Zhi of Dagui in Tanzhou was a person from Siming. Ascending the hall, he cited: "Nanquan said, 'The Buddhas of the three times do not know it exists; wildcats and white oxen do know it exists.'" The Master said, "Since the Buddhas of the three times do not know it exists, how could wildcats and white oxen have even dreamed of it? Clearly, one must know that there are people above who know it exists before one can attain it. And what is a person who knows it exists? Drinking government wine, lying in the government street; / Dying right where one is, buried right where one is. / Boundless heroic and valiant men on the battlefield, / Piled up like mountains and hills, exposing their corpses."
