Chan Master Baojue Zongyin of Yunding in Huai'an Commandery ascended the hall: "An ancient said, 'If you know the small orange, it is more than sufficient on all sides.' He also said, 'If you know the small orange, heaven and earth are as far apart as can be.' This mountain monk does not do so at all: knowing the small orange, what kind of useless furniture is that?" One day, after finishing a general sermon, the Master said, "Disciples, do not scatter just yet; listen further to a verse." He then said: / "Forty-nine years, / a scene of clamorous bustle. / Eighty-seven springs, / the old fellow played alone. / Who has less, who has more? / All the same, dreaming a dream. / Let me return, let me return! / On the plum branch, the snow is heavy." / Having finished speaking, he stepped down from the seat, leaned on his staff, and passed away.
