26.41

臨江軍慧力洞源禪師上堂曰。佛祖不立。雨落街頭自濕。凡聖何依。晴乾自是無泥。方知頭頭皆是道。法法本圓成。休說趙州七斤衫曹溪一滴水。須彌頂上浪滔天。大洋海底紅塵起。喝一喝。是何道理參。

Chan Master Huili Dongyuan of Linjiang Military Prefecture ascended the hall and said, "When Buddhas and Patriarchs are not established, rain falling on the street is naturally wet. Whereon do the ordinary and the sacred rely? When clear and dry, naturally there is no mud. Only then do you know that every single thing is the Way, and every single dharma is originally complete. Stop speaking of Zhaozhou's seven-pound hemp robe or Caoxi's single drop of water! On the summit of Mount Sumeru, billows surge to the heavens; at the bottom of the great ocean, red dust arises." He gave a shout and said, "What principle is this? Examine!"
