28.51

上曰。普聞黃彥節舉古云。心隨萬境轉轉處實能幽。因得受用以虛心應物。徑山對。虛明自照不勞心力。師對。此乃三祖大師信心銘。正為有所證悟者說。

The Emperor said, "I generally heard Huang Yanjie cite an ancient saying: 'The mind turns along with the ten thousand conditions; the place where it turns is truly profound.' Thereby one attains practical function and responds to things with an open mind." Jingshan replied, "Empty and bright, illuminating itself, it does not exhaust mental effort." The Master replied, "This is the Inscription on Faith in Mind by the Third Patriarch and Great Master. It was spoken precisely for those who have had some realization and awakening."
