28.55

上曰。更數年須可曉。師對。但於一剎那間以悟為則。問對既久。師乃奏曰。臣恐久勞　聖聽。謝恩下殿。八年正月二十八日車駕幸靈隱寺至冷泉亭。師起居罷。侍臣傳　旨長老歸寺。上至三門下馬。師再起居。

The Emperor said, "In a few more years it should certainly be understandable." The Master replied, "One must take awakening in a single instant as the rule." After the questions and answers had gone on for a long time, the Master memorialized, "Your servant fears tiring the imperial ear for too long." He gave thanks for the imperial favor and descended from the hall. On the twenty-eighth day of the first month of the eighth year, the imperial carriage visited Lingyin Temple and arrived at the Lengquan Pavilion. After the Master performed the greeting rituals, the attending ministers conveyed the imperial order for the elder to return to the temple. The Emperor arrived at the triple gate and dismounted his horse. The Master greeted him again.
