The Emperor then turned back his carriage. The Master gave thanks for the imperial favor and returned. On the following day, a decree was issued bestowing silk fabrics and other gifts. On the sixth day of the eighth month of that year, an imperial decree summoned the elder of Lingyin to enter the palace on the seventh day together with government officials, monks, and Daoists to attend a vegetarian meal at the Guantang. When the meal was over, they went to the front of the Guantang to perform the greeting rituals. The Emperor bestowed seats and tea. As he was expressing gratitude, another decree was issued, summoning solely the elder of Lingyin to the eastern chamber of the Guantang. The Master entered and memorialized, "Today your servants received Your Majesty's pure offering, and the three teachings are fully assembled. This splendid event is rare in the world; we are deeply grateful for the sagely favor."
