30.34

中丞盧航居士。與圓通擁爐次。公問。諸家因緣不勞拈出。直截一句請師指示。通厲聲揖曰。看火。公急撥衣忽大悟。謝曰。灼然佛法無多子。通喝曰。放下著。公應喏喏。

The Censor, Upāsaka Lu Hang, was sitting around the brazier with Yuantong. The gentleman asked, "There is no need to bring out the nidānas of the various houses. Please point out a direct phrase, Master." Yuantong called out sharply with a bow, "Watch the fire!" The gentleman hastily brushed his clothes and suddenly had a great awakening. In gratitude, he said, "Truly, the Buddha Dharma does not amount to much!" Yuantong gave a shout and said, "Put it down!" The gentleman answered, "Yes, yes."
