漣水軍萬壽夢菴普信禪師上堂。殘雪既消盡。春風日漸多。若將時節會。佛法又如何。且道時節因緣與佛法道理是同是別。良久曰。無影樹栽人不見。開華結果自馨香。

Chan Master Meng'an Puxin of Wanshou in Lianshui Military Prefecture ascended the hall: 'The lingering snow has melted away completely; the spring breeze grows stronger day by day. If you understand it in terms of the season, what then of the Buddha Dharma? And tell me: are the seasonal causes and conditions and the principle of the Buddha Dharma the same or different?' After a long pause, he said: 'A shadowless tree is planted where no one sees; when it blossoms and bears fruit, it is fragrant of itself.'
