Chan Master Hanyan Huisheng of Yanfu in Quanzhou was a native of Jianning. Ascending the hall, he gave a shout and said, "Taking all the worlds of the ten directions together with all time throughout the ten periods, ancient and modern—they are packed tight and completely filled within here. Yet if one opens it up just by the point of a needle, the great ocean flows westward and huge peaks stand upside down; giant turtles, alligators, fish, dragons, shrimp, crabs, and earthworms all surge forth in rolling waves on level ground, swimming and dancing with joy. Even though it is like this, you must take one further step yourself from the top of the hundred-foot pole; then with every step you turn the inexhaustible treasure wheel. Only then will you know that the nostrils hang over the upper lip and the eyebrows are not below the eyes. Do you clearly understand?" Again he gave a shout and said, "Beware of moving your throat and touching upon the taboo!"
