Chan Master Zongying of Qianyuan in Fuzhou ascended the hall, struck his staff once, and said, "For a quick-tempered fellow, it takes only a single hammer-blow." Leaning his staff, he said, "For a sharp-witted person, there is no need to bring it up again. Right now, is there anyone sharp-witted?" After a long pause, he said, "Trying to catch a qilin, one does not even encounter a hare."
