34.24

建寧府仙州山吳十三道人。每以已事扣諸禪及開善。歸結茆於其左。遂往給侍。紹興庚申三月八日夜適然啟悟。占偈呈善曰。元來無縫罅。觸著便光輝。既是千金寶。何須彈雀兒。善答曰。啐地折時真慶快。死生凡聖盡平沈。仙州山下呵呵笑。不負相期宿昔心。

Daoist Wu the Thirteenth of Mount Xianzhou in Jianning Prefecture frequently questioned various Chan masters as well as Kaishan regarding his own matter. He returned and built a thatched hut to the left of [Kaishan's abode] and went to attend upon him. On the night of the eighth day of the third month in the gengshen year of the Shaoxing reign era, he suddenly had an awakening. He composed a verse and presented it to Qian: / "Originally there is no seam or crack; / Touched, it immediately shines with brilliance. / Since it is a jewel worth a thousand pieces of gold, / Why use it as a pellet to shoot sparrows?" / Qian replied: / "When it snaps with a crack, what true jubilation! / Birth and death, commoner and sage all sink flat. / Under Mount Xianzhou, roaring with laughter, / I do not betray the mind that we pledged in the past."
