35.10

杭州徑山如琰禪師字浙翁。台州周氏子。頴悟邁倫。作維摩讚偈云。毘耶示疾放憨。癡添得時人滿肚疑。不是文殊親勘破。者些毛病有誰知。

Chan Master Ruyan of Jingshan in Hangzhou was styled Zhe'weng. He was a son of the Zhou family of Taizhou. His outstanding awakening surpassed his peers. He composed a verse of praise for Vimalakīrti:
'At Vaiśālī he feigned illness, acting foolish and slow,
Filling the people of the time with stomachs full of doubt.
If Mañjuśrī himself had not seen through him,
Who would have known of these few subtle flaws?'
