天台山妙智寺光雲禪師。僧問。如何是祖師西來意。師曰。東籬黃菊。曰意旨如何師曰。九日重陽。

Chan Master Guangyun of Miaozhi Temple on Mount Tiantai. A monk asked, 'What is the meaning of the Patriarch's coming from the West?' / The master said, 'Yellow chrysanthemums by the eastern hedge.' / [The monk] asked, 'What is the purport?' / The master said, 'The ninth day, Double Ninth.'
