Chan Master Weijue of Jingguang in Wenzhou. A monk asked, "The Master personally sings the single tune of Yunmen; what is the meaning of the Patriarch's coming from the West?" The Master said, "What did you say?" The monk said, "Then this is precisely where the Upādhyāya assists people." The Master said, "Wrong." He then said, "Jingguang's azure temple is the Jetavana of the ancient Buddhas. Hearing its name, worldly minds suddenly cease; beholding it with the eyes is just like ascending to heaven. Facing the city walls in front, backed by forest and springs. Everywhere people sing of the imperial transformation; what need is there to expound wonders and discuss the profound? What about the one aperture directed upward?" Suddenly seizing his staff, he struck once and said, "The mandarin ducks are embroidered—look as you please; / Do not pass the golden needle to others!" He then stepped down from his seat.
