Chan Master Shoudao of Tiansheng in Anji Prefecture ascended the hall: "The sun and moon circle Mount Sumeru; in the human realm, day and night are divided. The people of Jambudvīpa are only hindered by light and dark, form and void. Tell me: How do you speak a phrase that does not fall into light and dark?" After a long pause, he said, "The color of willows is tender gold; pear blossoms are fragrant white snow. Attend!" Ascending the hall: "Not going from one stage to another stage: within the nature of quiescent cessation, how could there be ranks? Śākyamuni bowed his head and asked Dīpaṃkara: 'Benevolent one, why is this called receiving the prediction?'" He then stepped down from his seat.
