惠州羅浮山顯如禪師益州人。初到大陽。陽問。汝是甚處人。曰益州。陽曰。此去幾里。曰五十里。陽曰。爾與麼來還曾踏著麼。曰不曾踏著。陽曰。汝解騰空那。曰不解騰空。陽曰。爭得到這裏。曰步步不迷方。通身無辨處。陽曰。汝得超方三昧邪。曰聖心不可得。三昧豈彰名。陽曰。如是如是。汝應信此。即本體全彰理事不二善自護持。住後僧問。如何是羅浮境。師曰。突兀侵天際。巍峨鎮海涯。曰如何是境中人。師曰頂上白雲散。足下黑煙生。

Chan Master Xianru of Mount Luofu in Huizhou was a native of Yizhou. When he first arrived at Dayang, Dayang asked, 'Where are you from?' He said, 'Yizhou.' Dayang said, 'How many li from here?' He said, 'Fifty li.' Dayang said, 'Coming like this, did you ever step on the ground?' He said, 'I did not step on it.' Dayang said, 'Do you understand how to soar through the air?' He said, 'I do not understand how to soar through the air.' Dayang said, 'How did you manage to arrive here?' He said, 'Step by step, not losing the direction; throughout my whole body there is nothing to discern.' Dayang said, 'Have you attained the samādhi that transcends boundaries?' He said, 'The sacred mind cannot be attained; how could samādhi proclaim a name?' Dayang said, 'So it is, so it is. You should have faith in this: the fundamental essence is fully manifested, principle and phenomena are not two; protect and uphold it well.'

After taking up residence, a monk asked, 'What is the environment of Luofu?' The Master said, 'Towering, it encroaches upon the sky; / Lofty, it garrisons the edge of the sea.' The monk said, 'What is the person within the environment?' The Master said, 'White clouds scatter above his crown; / Black smoke rises beneath his feet.'
