瑞州武泉山政禪師僧問。如何是佛法大意。師曰。衣成人水成田。上堂。黃梅席上海眾千人。付法傳衣碓坊行者。是則紅日西昇。非則月輪東上。參。

Chan Master Zheng of Mount Wuquan in Ruizhou—a monk asked, "What is the great meaning of the Buddha Dharma?" The Master said, "Clothing makes the man; water makes the field." Ascending the hall, he said, "At the assembly on Mount Huangmei there were a thousand people; the Dharma was entrusted and the robe transmitted to the postulant in the threshing shed. If this is right, the red sun rises in the west; if this is wrong, the moon disc rises in the east. Investigate!"
