蔣山保心禪師。僧問。月未圓時如何。師曰。順數將去。曰圓後如何。師曰。倒數將來。問如何是吹毛劍。師曰。黑漆露柱。問聲色兩字如何透得。師曰。一手吹一手拍。

Chan Master Baoxin of Jiangshan. A monk asked, "What is it like when the moon is not yet full?"
The Master said, "Count forward."
He asked, "What is it like after it is full?"
The Master said, "Count backward."
He asked, "What is the sword that severs a hair blown against it?"
The Master said, "A black-lacquered pillar."
He asked, "How can one penetrate the two words 'sound' and 'form'?"
The Master said, "One hand blows, one hand claps."
