Vasumitra remained in samādhi for seven days; because of this, he emerged and instructed the assembly, saying, "The Dharma I have attained is not existent; if you know the Buddha-stage, it is free of existence and non-existence." Having spoken, he entered tranquil cessation again and displayed the sign of nirvāṇa. The heavenly hosts, hearing the Dharma, all rejoiced and bowed to him, scattering heavenly flowers. That time was during the reign of King Ding of the Zhou. Buddhanandi built a jewelled stupa over his original seat to enshrine his whole body.
