He further addressed Śāṇavāsa, saying, 'Skillfully carry out conversion, protect and uphold the True Dharma, and do not let it be severed.' He addressed Madhyāntika, saying, 'The Buddha's past prophecy states that in the five hundred years after his extinction, you should broadly proclaim the Great Dharma in the country of Jibin; later you should go there to establish the teaching and conversion.' Soon afterwards, the Venerable One leaped into empty space and performed the eighteen transformations. Entering the wind-wheel swift samādhi, he divided his body into four portions: one was given to Trāyastriṃśa Heaven, one to the palace of the Sāgara dragon king, one to King Ajātaśatru, and one to the King of Vaiśālī. Those who received them each erected a precious stupa to make offerings to them. This corresponded to the time of King Yi of Zhou.
