After this, he raised his right hand, grasped a tree, and passed away. This was during the time of Emperor Xiaozhao of the Han dynasty. His assembly deliberated, saying, 'The Great Being passed into extinction beneath a luxuriant tree; might he also extend shade to posterity?' Someone wished to move him to a high plateau to cremate him, but though they exerted all their strength to lift him, they could not move him in the end. Thereupon they cremated him right at that spot, collected the relics, and built a stūpa for them there.
