The appraisal says: By what can the advance entrustment of the Dharma be verified? I say: It is verified by the sages. Only sages are capable of occult knowledge. Now, Simha's virtue was capable of making him a patriarch, and in his own words, he had already attained the emptiness of the aggregates. His attainment as a sage was indeed supreme; how could he lack occult knowledge? Moreover, Haklenayaśas had once spoken to him of the difficulty and urged him to transmit the Way; how could he not have entrusted the Dharma in advance? Other records (namely, the Fu fazang zhuan) were able to know that white milk gushed forth upon his execution, yet went on to say that the lineage of Dharma transmission ended here. Why did they write so recklessly without reflecting? (Their falsehood is verified by the Dhyāna Sūtra.)
