"In the womb it becomes the body;
Living in the world, it is the person.
In the eyes it is called seeing;
In the ears it is called hearing.
In the nose it distinguishes fragrance;
In the mouth it engages in discussion.
In the hands it grasps and holds;
In the feet it moves and runs.
Manifested everywhere, it encompasses worlds as numerous as sands;
Withdrawn and gathered, it resides in a single speck of dust.
Those who recognize it know it is the Buddha-nature;
Those who do not recognize it call it the spirit-soul."
