Having transmitted the Dharma, the Venerable One said to the king, "Receiving the state's generous offerings, how could I not feel grateful? But my converting conditions are almost exhausted, and I cannot long cling to your benevolence and virtue. I am about to depart. May the King take good care of himself." The king wept as if having lost his own parent. The Venerable One then transformed his form upon his seat in the royal palace like the sun, and after a short while restored it. Displaying the eighteen transformations, he incinerated himself with the fire of samādhi. Golden relics rained down. The king later built a golden stūpa to enshrine them. That time corresponded to the era of Emperor Xiaowu of the Eastern Jin.
