The third generation from the Thirty-first Patriarch was Chan Master Zhiyan. His collateral Dharma heirs were eight persons: one was Jingtan of the Eastern Capital, one was Zhichang of Xiangzhou, one was Duanfu of Yizhou, one was Guiren of Longguang, one was Biancai of Xiangyang, one was Fajun of Hannan, and one was Mingu of Xichuan.
