第十三祖迦毘摩羅。花氏國人。未詳其姓氏。初為外道。有大幻術。因詣馬鳴。較法不勝。遂為其徒。得道戒已。亦遊化至西天竺。降大火龍。因之得龍樹。為之弟子。將滅乃以其法付之。說偈曰。

The Thirteenth Patriarch, Kapimala, was a man of the country of Pāṭaliputra; his clan and surname are not known. He was initially a non-Buddhist who possessed great illusory arts. Visiting Aśvaghoṣa, he could not match his Dharma in comparison, and thereupon became his disciple. Having attained the Way and received the precepts, he also traveled and transforming reached Western India, where he subdued a great fire dragon. By means of this, he found Nāgārjuna and took him as a disciple. About to pass away, he transmitted his Dharma to him, speaking a verse, saying:
