第十六祖羅睺羅多。迦毘羅國人姓梵摩氏。既遇提婆。得明其家樹耳之緣。即師之出家。悟法有異迹。其後統徒遊化至室羅筏城。以佛記訪僧伽難提。尋亦得其出家為弟子。將般涅槃。乃以法付之。說偈曰。

The sixteenth patriarch, Rāhulata, was a man of the kingdom of Kapila whose surname was Brahmā. Having met [Kāṇa]deva and had the conditions of the fungus on his family's tree clarified, he immediately took him as master and renounced the householder's life, awakening to the Dharma with extraordinary traces. Afterwards, leading his disciples, he traveled and taught until he reached the city of Śrāvastī. In accordance with the Buddha's prophecy, he sought out Saṅghanandi, and soon had him renounce the householder's life to become his disciple. As he was about to enter parinirvāṇa, he transmitted the Dharma to him and spoke a verse:
