Sengyou was originally a man of the Southern Qi who entered the Liang and was renowned for upholding the vinaya. He once composed the Chu sanzang ji [ji]. His catalogue of the Sarvāstivāda lineage of transmission says: "Śāratara (the twenty-fifth patriarch), Puṇyamitra (the twenty-sixth patriarch), Prajñātāra (the twenty-seventh patriarch), and Dharmatrāta (the twenty-eighth patriarch)." Sengyou died soon after, during the Liang.
