When the kalpa ends in fire, everything is completely empty. Through the force of the causes and conditions of sentient beings’ merit, winds from the ten directions arrive; wind upon wind successively supports the great water. Above the water there is a being with one thousand heads and two thousand hands and feet, named Weixi. From this person’s navel grows a golden lotus flower with one thousand petals, its light intensely bright, like ten thousand suns shining together. Inside the flower there is a person seated cross-legged. This person also possesses immeasurable radiance and is named the Brahma King. His mind generated eight sons, and the eight sons gave birth to heaven, earth, and human beings. This Brahma King has completely exhausted all lust and anger without remainder. For this reason it is said: “If a person cultivates dhyāna and pure conduct, cutting off sexual desire, this is called practicing the Brahma way; when the Buddha turns the wheel of the Dharma, it is sometimes called the Brahma wheel.” This Brahma King sits upon a lotus flower; therefore, the Buddhas, conforming to worldly convention, sit cross-legged upon precious lotus flowers and preach the six pāramitās. Those who hear this Dharma are certain to reach anuttarā samyaksaṃbodhi.
