In the past, in the time of Kāśyapa Buddha, there was a king named Kṛkī who built a vihāra for the Buddha and fully served him. The king's seventh daughter had previously served brahmacārins, but later faithfully served the Buddha. The brahmacārins despised her and called her a slave-girl of the saṃgha. The king had ten dreams, found them strange, and asked about them. The brahmacārin, pondering the dreams, wished to trap this daughter, so he said to the king, "If you take your most beloved daughter, burn her, and sacrifice her to heaven, only then will there be good fortune." The king was deeply unhappy. The daughter asked the king, "Why are you unhappy?" The king explained it as such, and the daughter said, "If burning brings good fortune, it is my lot to bear it!" She asked, "In how many days will the sacrifice be?" The brahmacārin said, "In seven days." The daughter said to the king, "Though I must die, I pray that you will permit me to go to the Buddha's place, and have all the people of the south of the city escort me out." The king then ordered them to escort her. The daughter led them to the Buddha's place; when he finished preaching the Dharma, they attained seeing the Dharma. Each day, people from one direction escorted her, and the people from all four sides of the city saw the truths. She again requested that the people within the city escort her, and it was also like this. On the sixth day, she requested that the king and the palace officials escort her; the Buddha preached the Dharma for them, and they all saw the truths. The king then realised the brahmacārin's deceit and said to the brahmacārin, "You almost had me kill my daughter by mistake! If you do not become a śramaṇa for the Buddha, you must leave the kingdom." The brahmacārin did not know where to go, so having no choice, they all went to the Buddha to become śramaṇas, and later attained the fruit of arhatship.
