There was a monk of Yinzhou whose name is lost. Having served as annual prefect, he cut down the ladle to make it small so that the monks' gruel would be insufficient. After a month had passed, he did not come out of his room for days. The monks found it strange and secretly peeked inside. Whenever it was mealtime, this monk took his bowl to the privy, took excrement, and ate it himself. The monks therefore abruptly opened his room; the interior was extraordinarily foul-smelling. When they questioned him about the reason, the monk repented before the assembly, and thereupon recovered his normal state.
