The Khotanese monk Vajrasena—here translated as 'Adamantine Army'—received, upheld, and studied the Hīnayāna *Kośa* treatises. He did not believe in the Mahāyāna, and constantly engaged in disputation and slander. Because of this, he lost sight in both eyes. More than ten years passed, and he was blind, unable to see anything. Later, he heard the instructions of Siṃhamitra, yet was unable to believe completely; he was merely admonished to chant the heart-dhāraṇī of Avalokiteśvara. Thereupon both his eyes became bright and clear. Consequently, he made a great dedication of merit, took refuge in and believed the Mahāyāna, and abandoned Hīnayāna studies.
