It is said that long ago in India there was a person of noble birth who was extremely destitute, sustaining himself by begging for food. Wherever he went in cities and towns, doors were closed against him, so people all called him “Shut Door.” He was constantly grieving and lamenting. He went to a temple with a wondrous image of Bhaiṣajyaguru, circumambulated the Buddha image to the right, sincerely repented his transgressions, and fasted for five days. As in a dream, from the image emerged an exquisite body resembling a youthful figure, which said to him, “Your past karma is largely extinguished, and you will surely attain great wealth. You should return to your parents’ former dwelling.” After waking, he spoke of this and reached the former dwelling. The enclosing walls were ruined, with only rotten pillars and roofbeams remaining. Believing the instruction, he stayed for two days, and upon digging into the ground with a staff, a hidden treasure spontaneously revealed itself, which had been stored away by his parents. Within a year he attained wealth and nobility. This was due to the Buddha's power.
