Long ago, a prince of South India became weary of the world, left home, and propagated and upheld the True Dharma. He recited [the name and mantra of] Āryācalanātha Vidyārāja and walked alone through the wilderness. The Vidyārāja manifested his body to be his companion, calling himself an invaluable servant who served the practitioner just as the World-Honoured One's disciples served the World-Honoured One: “The silk cloth tied on my shoulder is the insignia of this.” (Tuo-po here means a male or female slave. One obtained without the use of strings of coins is called “invaluable.” A cloth is tied around the shoulder to distinguish them. Āryācalanātha accepts being commanded by others and follows the practitioner, just like a slave bought without money. Now, tying the cloth on himself symbolizes an invaluable slave, and what he said of himself cannot be erroneous.)
